Well, we've been assimilated.

If you are reading this, you are looking at the beginning of the end of the Fanboy Smackdown as an independent entity.

We have joined FarPoint Media!

With the move to join the new family, we've had to make some changes.  Some of them are subtle, some are much larger.  One of the big changes is that we are taking some time to make things a bit more consistent across our shows and with the feed... and in doing so, we're changing the feed.

The new feed is going to be http://feeds.feedburner.com/FanboySmackdown

The new website is at www.fanboysmackdown.com

This feed and site will stay up for a few months, but we highly recommend coming over to the new site and picking up the feed there.  We won't be adding any of our new shows here.

To get the new stuff, use the above feed, or head over to the official site.

I spent twelve and a half hours yesterday watching all five films nominated for best picture.

To break it down the best I can, let me start off by saying that I don't believe that Babel or Little Miss Sunshine are in quite the same league as the other three films.  Don't get me wrong, these are great movies, but just not in the same class as the other three films.

It's hard for me to pick just how I think the Academy is going to vote this year.  As a political way of doing this I'm going to show how each of them could win.

1:  The Queen - If the Academy has an interest in the Monarchy of Great Britain and/or a sense of humor, the Oscar goes to 'The Queen'.

2:  The Departed - If the Academy has a soft spot for Martin Scorsese and a love for his past work, the Oscar goes to 'The Departed'

3:  Letters from Iwo Jima - If the Academy still loves Clint as much as they have in the past, the Oscar goes to 'Letters from Iwo Jima'.

Some reasons why each film might not win.

1:  The Queen - While not a fall-out-of-your-chair-funny comedy, the queen has a number of situations that you can't help but laugh at... in a good way.   The "History" is rather recent and all of the major players are still alive, so it doesn't play any side too harshly.

2:  The Departed - While financially successful, this is NOT Martin Scorsese's best film.  We've seen what he can do, and he CAN do better.  There were a few roles in the film that were excellently acted, but could have served a lesser known actor more than a big name.  I'm talking to you Mr. Baldwin.

3:  Letters from Iwo Jima - Clint has two movies that have the same setting, just from different view points.  This is the one you have to READ.  It's also the story from the enemy's point of view and it does a fantastic job of humanizing the enemy... which may or may not help.

In the end, I am really torn on which film to give the Oscar to.  And which I think the Academy will go with.

But since I promised a decision, here we go...

Best Female Actor - Helen Mirren

Best Director - Martin Scorsese

Best Picture - The Queen (Because it was the one that I was surprised by the most)

There you have it... I guess we'll know how I stack up in just a few hours.

Johnny Blaze is the Spirit of Vengence.

We have a guest host today as we discuss the new film Ghost Rider.

Another Pubcast, this one seemed to have a better sound than some of our previous ventures.

We also chat about some of other comic book based movies that Marvel has coming out in the next year or so.

Somehow we also pull the conversation back from ending the show to a discussion about this weekend's Oscars.

Don't forget to check back here this weekend for my pick for the Best Picture Oscar after I spend all day Saturday watching the five nominated films... all five... one day... bucket after bucket of popcorn and soda.

We also make the announcement official and discuss the changes that are going to be coming to the podcast and the feed.

Join in on the conversation!

The Super Bowl is this weekend and we take the opportunity to discuss Football movies.

I woefully neglected Wildcats, but otherwise I think we hit on most of the stereotypical football/sport films that we've seen.

We talk about Scott Sigler's 'The Rookie'.

Stu checks in with a voice mail and we get into a longish discussion about Sci-Fi on television before pimping the action on the comments section of the site.

We talk up Pickle Tales, which is about to enter its final round.  Good luck, Laurence and Phil!

Yes… You read the length correctly.
This is another first for us here.  We’ve got a special guest from half a continent away.  The man, the myth, the pimp… Tee Morris.
Tee joins me for a chat about his new podiobook, ‘Billibub Baddings and The Case of The Singing Sword’.
From there we talk about ‘24’ and Tee’s Evo Terra-esque ‘Wash Dies!’ moment during the four hour finale.  (Note to Tee:  Beware the chicken scissors.)  We talk about podiobooks, Van Helsing, Metropolis, 24, Daredevil, The Hulk, Pirates, The Davinci Code, and kids on podcasts.

You can find everything Tee at www.teemorris.com.
You can subscribe to Billibub at www.teemorris.com/billipodcast/

This is something a bit different for the Smackdown.

Friend of the Fanboy Smackdown, premier podiobook author, and all around pimp, Tee Morris is just about to release his next podcast audiobook (podiobook) 'Billibub Baddings and The Case of The Singing Sword'.

He has given us permission to release this first chapter to you guys.  This is a full month before the official release of the podcast on February 14th, 2007.  I've given this a listen and can say that I'm excited to hear the rest of what Tee has in store for the dwarf detective.

Yeah, you read that right.  This is a book that erases the lines of genre and sets up some fun characters to tell, what looks to be, a fun story.  Not only is the story shaping up nicely, but Tee has enlisted a Who's Who list of podcasting talent to round out the cast...  though oddly I didn't notice anyone named Tony in that list... He has also hooked up with some incredible musicians.  This podcast novel is shaping up to be an audio feast.

Take a listen, let us know what you think here and let Tee know what you think as well.  And if you happen to think of it, let him know where you heard about Billi.  If we get some good response, maybe we can even get Tee to come on and chat about some movies and the book for us on the show!

More from us soon, we are just finishing our holiday break and recovering from over indulging in all of the joyous festivities and spirits of the season.

For more information on Tee Morris check out his website.

Also, check out Baddings Investigations, Inc. - The official blog of the book.

(Sorry for the late show, new technical set-up and a sick kid caused a weekend-long delay)

Hello.....

Genie here.

Tony and Tony get into some long rambling conversation about Science Fiction movies and end up talking about Time Travel.  I don't see what the big deal is, a snap of the fingers and I can travel to any point in time.  I don't get why they have to spend a whole show talking about it, but what do I know, I'm just an all-powerful Genie... I'm gonna head to the future a couple of weeks to get to the new episodes of Smallville.

Hello everybody!  Chris and Eliz from Two Girls and a Podcast here and we have taken over the Fanboy Smackdown studio.

We won't lie to you; we have the boys tied up in the backroom.  How else would we be able to rummage through their stuff, add a little pink to the decor, and rearrange their movie paraphernalia action figures into compromising positions?  Okay, perhaps there wasn't any pink...

But since Tony and Tony are laying down on the job, we figure it was vitally important to provide you, the listeners, with the female perspective on a guy movie and not just any guy movie.  No, no.  We are talking about the king of the guy movie heroes, James Bond.  That is right, we get down and dirty with the new Bond film, Casino Royale.  We promise that we don't get too girly.

Well, on with the show and not a moment too soon cause it is looking like Tony is starting to gnaw his way through those bindings.  We really should have tied that tighter.  Oops!  Gotta go.  Enjoy!
